About Parvathi
Parvathi Kota, Ph.D. is a partner at Dicke, Billig & Czaja, PLLC and a registered patent attorney with an extensive background in science. Parvathi’s practice focuses on intellectual property transactions, patent portfolio management, preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, opinion work, due diligence, inter partes review, and patent litigation.
Parvathi has more than fifteen years of research experience in life sciences, with expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetic engineering, enzymology, protein chemistry, and biotechnology. She previously worked as a research scientist in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Professor Har Gobind Khorana at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she studied structure-function relationships in rhodopsin. Parvathi’s postdoctoral work with Dr. Richard Dixon focused on the genetic modification of lignin biosynthesis in alfalfa. She identified new substrates for key enzymes in the lignin biosynthesis and proposed a new pathway for alfalfa. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the purification and regulation of photosynthetic enzymes.
Parvathi published several articles in peer-reviewed science journals. She was invited to present her research at several national and international scientific meetings. She also served as a reviewer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture grant applications and for scientific journals. In recognition of her academic achievements, she received several awards and honors. While at MIT, she also taught an advanced undergraduate seminar course on G-protein coupled receptors.
With her experience in both scientific as well as legal fields, she understands complex scientific inventions and intricate legal issues and provides strategic counseling to her clients. She is known for her thoroughness, consistency, professionalism, and dedication, and works closely with her clients to protect and maximize the value of their intellectual property.
Parvathi received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where she served as a staff editor for the Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment Law Journal. She also received the First Year Best Brief Award in her first year of law school. Parvathi received her Ph.D., M.Sc., M.Phil. in Life Sciences from University of Hyderabad and B.Sc. in Biology and Chemistry, with distinction, from Andhra University.
