About Gregg

There is no substitute for experience. Gregg’s father taught him at a young age to do things himself, advice which Gregg says has served him well ever since. Having never feared the challenge of complex work, nor the demands of intensely paced projects, Gregg knows what he can do, and also what he can’t do, which is really what wisdom is all about.

A patent attorney at Dicke, Billig & Czaja since he graduated law school in 2002, Gregg focuses on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution and other intellectual property work. His primary areas of technical specialization are electrical, electro-mechanical, semiconductor, software and computer-related as well as mechanical technologies.

After attending the University of Wisconsin at Platteville, Gregg worked as a Power and Control Systems Engineer for Madison Gas & Electric for two years. He then spent the next decade as a Project Manager and Consulting Engineer for various engineering firms in Madison and Minneapolis. During these years as an electrical engineer, Gregg designed medium and high-voltage power systems for medical, educational, and industrial buildings and campuses, conducted engineering studies, and designed, implemented, and tested manufacturing processes for projects ranging from process lines to entire manufacturing facilities.

Gregg says he approaches his work as a patent attorney just as he conducted his previous career as an electrical engineer: get into the details, figure out how something works (or is supposed to work!), and fix any problems you encounter as best you can with the help of your team. With time and effort comes the confidence of experience. Gregg has been a patent attorney now as long as he was an engineer, and has found the lessons learned from both aspects of his career to be very beneficial to his clients.

Away from the office, Gregg enjoys spending quality time with his family and indulging in his passion for home improvement. Following his dad’s advice, Gregg builds and fixes everything in the house himself. One major exception was when he hired someone else to put in the pool, a decision Gregg came to regret the when it lost water all winter. He considers that to be further proof that his dad was right all along.
