About Annette

A former project manager in the building trade, Annette could host her own home renovation show. She can braze copper pipe, form and pour concrete, miter joints, and wire light fixtures. Previously crumbling homes have become livable again under her care. Foundation and structure are fundamentally important to Annette. This sensibility informs the practical advice she provides to clients on building and maintaining intellectual property portfolios.

Annette focuses on patent prosecution and other related intellectual property work, including a growing trademark practice. Her primary areas of technical specialization include mechanical, electro-mechanical, medical devices, semiconductors, manufacturing and processing systems, building envelope and structural systems, printing devices, and computer-related technologies.

Currently Co-Chair of the Minnesota Intellectual Property Association (MIPLA) Women in IP Law Committee, Annette is dedicated to expanding opportunity in her chosen field and business development in her adopted state.

After earning her civil engineering degree from Michigan Technological University, Annette worked as a project manager on commercial and heavy/industrial building projects. For over a decade, she did constructability reviews, budget analysis, contract negotiations and preparation, and system start-up and testing.  During that time, Annette worked on various process, mechanical, electrical, and structural systems. The variety of tasks and technologies she encountered in construction has served her well as a patent attorney, developing her already considerable mental dexterity.

Aiding Annette’s clear and quick thinking and that of colleagues and staff are her office full of plants. Her little green friends keep the firm's oxygen level at optimum capacity, and a visit to her office is always a breath of fresh air.

Outside the office, Annette taps her construction experience by restoring historic homes, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, and serving on the Red Wing Historic Preservation Commission. Annette also enjoys working out and participating in various sports, including volleyball, racquetball, biking, and running. She spends time with her teenage daughter whenever she can.
